About this free game
Mahjong Night is a free game from Dayplay Games, a brand of Winter Watermelon, with no account, ads or purchases.
How to play
Pick American or Hong Kong rules on the menu. A table with friends plays the rules its host picks.
American rules
Everyone starts with 13 tiles (the dealer with 14). Before play, the Charleston passes three tiles right, across and left, and the table can vote to pass again. Then, in turn, each player draws a tile and throws one away. Win by making one of the hands on the card with exactly 14 tiles, then press Mahjong.
When someone throws a tile you need for three, four or five of a kind, you can call it: you take it, show the group on the table, and throw. Jokers stand in for any tile in a group of three or more, never in a pair or a single. If someone has a joker in a group on the table and you hold the real tile, you can swap it on your turn.
The card in this game is our own and changes nothing about how the game is played. Tap Card during a game to see every hand, with the ones nearest to your tiles marked. With hints on, the game shows your nearest hand under your tiles and dots the tiles it would let go.
Points: the player who threw the winning tile pays double the hand's value and the others pay its value; a hand drawn from the wall is paid double by everyone. A hand with no jokers counts double.
Hong Kong rules
There are no jokers and no card, and no Charleston: the dealer starts with 14 tiles and throws first. Win with four sets and a pair (a set is three in a row in one suit, a chow; three the same, a pung; or four the same, a kong), or with seven pairs or the thirteen orphans. Flowers are bonus tiles: they are set aside and replaced. You can chow only the tile thrown just before your turn, pung or kong anyone's, and a win beats any other call.
Points: some hands earn fan (one suit, all pungs, a dragon pung, your own wind and more; tap Guide during a game for the list). A hand is worth 1 doubled for each fan, up to 8 fan (256). A hand with no fan still wins. The player who threw the winning tile pays double and the others pay once; a hand drawn from the wall is paid double by everyone.
